presents:

Latent Image
Contemporary Photography in Arizona

Opening reception 6-9pm

Latent Image celebrates the incredible talent and diversity of Arizona artists who utilized photography as their means of expression.

The title Latent Image refers to the invisible image that is captured on unprocessed film or a digital storage device prior to development. Latent Image offers the public a chance to view photography from Arizona artists who exhibit in spaces all over the country and state, in one gallery.

The exhibition's curators Tiffany Fairall and Mike Goodwin aimed to create an exhibition that features a diverse range of artwork. Many of the featured photographers are displaying work at Mesa Contemporary Arts for the first time, “In addition to exposing audiences to a sampling of the remarkable artists that can be found in Arizona today, Latent Image focuses on diversity; the selected artwork demonstrates the wide range of subject matter and techniques that can be achieved with this important medium” comments Associate Curator Tiffany Fairall.

Although all of the work is contemporary and the subjects diverse, co-curator Mike Goodwin believes Latent Image is a contemporary reflection of photography's place in Arizona's history. “There is a rich history of photography in Arizona that can be traced back even before we became a state. Due to the beautiful but ominous landscape, our surroundings have often compelled photographers. This tradition continues to influence many incredible photographers in contemporary art.”

Featured Photographers include: Kate Breakey, Ernie Button, Bob Carey, Linda Ingraham, Damian Johnson, Mark Klett, Dayvid, LeMmon, William Lesch, Craig Smith, Marilyn Szabo, Lisa Takata, Dean Terasaki, and Robert Flynt.
